About Safetensors Viewer

A safetensors viewer is used to check what is inside a .safetensors model file before you load it: every tensor's name, dtype and shape, the parameter count and the __metadata__ block. This tool reads only the JSON header, so a multi-gigabyte checkpoint opens in under a second, and it recognizes LoRA adapters, Stable Diffusion checkpoints and transformer models from their tensor names.

What is inside a safetensors file?

A safetensors file starts with 8 bytes giving the length of a JSON header, then the header, then one block of raw tensor bytes. The header maps each tensor name to its dtype, shape and data_offsets, the start and end of its bytes in the block, plus an optional __metadata__ object of string pairs, where trainers such as Kohya sd-scripts store the base model, rank and caption tags. Unlike a pickle-based .pt or .ckpt file, nothing in it can run code when it is loaded, and the header alone is enough to describe the model.

Is my model uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read in your browser, header first, and nothing is sent to a server. Private fine-tunes and unreleased checkpoints stay on your machine.
