This polyline decoder turns the compressed route strings returned by the Google Maps Directions and Routes APIs, OSRM, Valhalla and Mapbox into readable latitude and longitude points, and encodes your own coordinates back into a polyline. It implements Google's Encoded Polyline Algorithm at precision 5 or 6, shows the route's shape and distance, and exports lat,lng lines, JSON or GeoJSON.

Why does my decoded polyline land in the wrong place?

Almost always it is precision. Google encodes coordinates at 5 decimal places, while OSRM, Valhalla and several routing SDKs default to 6, so a polyline6 decoded at precision 5 comes out ten times too large and falls outside valid latitude. The second cause is escaping: in a JSON response every backslash is written as two, and decoding the escaped string shifts every point after the first backslash. Switch precision to 6 or turn on JSON-escaped backslashes and decode again.
