Work out how many pods actually fit on a Kubernetes node before you pick an instance type. Enter the node size, the CPU and memory your system reserves, and the requests a single pod declares, and the calculator returns pods per node, which of the three limits is binding, how much capacity is stranded, and how many nodes a given replica count needs.

Why does my node say it is full when CPU usage is only 20 percent?

Kubernetes schedules against resource requests, not against measured usage. A pod that requests 250m of CPU reserves that quarter core for its whole lifetime whether it uses it or not, so twelve idle pods on a 4 core node can consume every schedulable millicore while the utilization graphs sit near zero. The fix is almost never a bigger node: it is right-sizing the requests to match real usage, which you can read from metrics-server or a VerticalPodAutoscaler in recommendation mode. Lower the request and the same hardware suddenly holds far more pods.
