This tool reads only the file header, so a 40 GB model opens in about a second, then lists every metadata key and tensor and estimates the memory the model needs at your context length.

What is stored in a GGUF file header?

A GGUF file starts with the magic bytes GGUF, a version number and two counts. Next come the metadata key-value pairs, which hold everything llama.cpp needs to rebuild the model: the architecture, layer and head counts, context length, RoPE settings, the full tokenizer vocabulary and the chat template. Then each tensor gets a short record with its name, shape, quantization type and offset. The weights follow the header, aligned to 32 bytes by default, which is why the header alone is enough to describe the model.

Is my model file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read in your browser, header only, and nothing is sent to a server. Private fine-tunes and unreleased checkpoints never leave your machine.
