About Folder Tree Generator

Folder Tree Generator draws the ASCII directory diagrams you see at the top of a README, a pull request description or a design doc. Type an indented outline, paste a list of file paths, or pick a real folder, and it returns the same connector layout the Unix tree command prints, with aligned comments and a directory and file count.

How do I show a folder structure in a GitHub README?

Put the diagram inside a fenced code block, three backticks on the line before and after, so GitHub renders it in a monospace font and the connector lines line up. Markdown lists do not work for this because GitHub collapses the indentation. Turn on the Markdown fence option here and paste the result directly. When you pick a folder, the browser may say it will upload the files; nothing is sent anywhere, only the file names are read on this page.
