Google Jules
Google's async AI coding agent - assign a GitHub issue, Jules implements it in a cloud VM and opens a pull request while you work on other things.
Google Jules is Google's asynchronous AI coding agent, accessed entirely via jules.google - no local install required. Connect your GitHub repository, assign Jules a task, and it spins up a cloud VM, reads the full repository, writes an implementation plan, codes the solution, and opens a pull request for your review. All of this happens asynchronously while you continue other work. Jules is powered by Gemini 2.5 Pro (upgraded to Gemini 3.1 Pro for paid users in March 2026). The standout 2026 addition is CI loop integration: when Jules opens a PR and CI fails, the agent auto-detects the failure, reads the error output, patches the code, and repushes - without intervention. Jules reached general availability August 6, 2025. As of June 2026, it only works with personal Gmail accounts - Google Workspace enterprise accounts are not yet supported.
Key Features
- Async task execution - Jules works in a cloud VM in the background while you continue coding
- CI loop auto-fix - detects failed CI checks, patches the code, and repushes without intervention
- Implementation plan preview - Jules presents a plan and waits for approval before writing code
- Natural language task assignment via the Jules web UI or direct GitHub issue selection
- Pull request output - every completed task opens a reviewable PR with clean diff
- Powered by Gemini 2.5 Pro / Gemini 3.1 Pro with extended thinking for complex tasks
- Bundled with Google AI Pro ($19.99/mo) and Ultra ($124.99/mo) - no separate subscription
Use Cases
- Fixing well-defined bugs and small features from a GitHub issue backlog asynchronously
- Developers who want AI help without interrupting their current work session
- Open-source maintainers delegating first-pass implementations on labeled issues
- Teams triaging CI failures - Jules handles the fix loop independently
- Individual developers on Google AI Pro using Jules as a background task queue
Pros
- Fully async - assign multiple tasks, review the PRs when ready, not when watching
- CI auto-fix loop means Jules handles test failures without re-prompting or monitoring
- Bundled with Google AI Pro - no additional cost for developers already subscribed
Cons
- Only available to personal Gmail accounts - Google Workspace enterprise accounts not yet supported (June 2026)
- Free tier task quotas are very limited - approximately 5 tasks per month on the free plan
- GitHub-only - no GitLab or Bitbucket support as of June 2026
